Carpentry and Joinery NVQ Level 2 at Lewisham College

Course description

Is this course for me? This course suits unemployed students who would like to gain a qualification in the trade but cannot provide the working experience necessary for a full NVQ. Construction Awards can be upgraded into full NVQs as and when employment is gained. What will I study? This course consists of practical and theoretical study. The programme is offered as a continuation from the Construction Foundation Award and the City & Guilds Basic Vocational Skills qualifications. Subjects: Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction Carry out safe working practices in construction Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others 2 Information, quantities and communicating with others 2 Knowledge of building methods and construction technology 2 Building methods and construction technology 2 Know how to carry out first fixing operations Carry out first fixing operations Know how to carry out second fixing Carry out second fixing Know how to erect structural carcassing Erect structural carcassing Know how to carry out maintenance Carry out maintenance Know how to set up and operate a circular saw Set up and operate a circular saw What can I do next? This course can lead to Carpentry and Joinery NVQ Level 2 (site work), Advanced Construction Award, or Carpentry and Joinery NVQ Level 3 at Lewisham College. It can also lead to employment in: Local authority maintenance teams Construction companies Self employment What are the entry requirements? You will need to have completed the Foundation Construction Award or Level 1 Diploma to gain entry to this course. How will I be assessed? Assessment is through practical skills and the underpinning knowledge, including short tests, subject assignments, a health and safety test and an externally set theoretical knowledge test, which can be retaken at the college if necessary. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and to discuss progress. .

Entry requirements

Students will be invited to attend an interview and complete an aptitude test.
