Assessment

EXAMINATION DETAILS: [Examination Board; Papers to be sat; Coursework; Time allowed]
You will be taking EDEXCEL GCSE Syllabus A which consists of two examination papers taken at the end of year 11. Paper 1 is a 1 hour non-calculator paper and paper 2 is a 1 hour calculator paper. In addition you will complete a coursework portfolio which makes up 20% of your final grade.
COURSEWORK DETAILS: [examples of topics; time allowed and deadlines]
Your coursework portfolio consists of two pieces of coursework. One of these pieces will be based on number and algebra or shape, space and measure, both of these require the use of algebra to solve quite complex problems. The other piece is a statistics project where you will plan how to collect, analyse, represent and interpret data to prove or disprove a hypothesis. Both of these pieces must be completed by February in Year 11 although some teachers may set earlier deadlines.

Mathematics is a skill which you will use in all walks of life. Whatever your plans for the future are Mathematics will play a key role in achieving them. The course will help you develop your skills in:
using and applying mathematics to some real-life problems
using a flexible range of number techniques
understanding the relationships between number and algebra
explaining shape and space through drawing work, practical work and I.C.T.
collecting, analysing, presenting and interpreting statistical data
Throughout the course you will further develop your ability to think clearly and logically.
