Performing Arts Acting Level 3 Extended Diploma at York College

Course content

You will be taught by theatre and industry trained professionals: Directors, Actors, Voice Coaches, Dancers, Choreographers, Singers and Musicians who work alongside students not only on professionally produced shows and performances but also offering first hand, vocational knowledge of the industry and its demands.

You will have the opportunity to learn and perform across a wide range of projects from full-scale theatre productions, touring shows and workshop performances to Film, TV and Radio Acting.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C (including English and preferably Drama) or a First Diploma in Performing Arts or related subject at Merit Level. The Extended Diploma is a practical, work-related approach to the world of theatre, television and film. Based upon real-life professional situations, activities and demands, the course is the ideal intermediate step in pursuing a career in the performing arts.

Please note for entry onto the course you will need to pass a practical audition workshop.

Assessment

Over the two years of the course you will perform and be assessed on a wide range of projects. At present approximately 70 per cent of the course is of a practical, hands-on nature with 30 per cent being academic/research. There will be a variety of performance/presentations throughout the two years, with major productions at the end of each year.

Financial information

A small materials cost is applied to this course. This will be confirmed at interview.

Future opportunities

The majority of students progress onto the next stage of professional training: taking BA Hons degrees and professional qualifications at drama school, university or higher education. Over the past few years we have had students at all the top 22 NCDT (National Council for Drama Training) accredited drama schools in the UK such as: The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Guilford Conservatoire, Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance; Bristol Old Vic Theatre School; Central School of Speech and Drama; London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA); The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama; The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, The Scottish Academy of Music and Drama; Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre; Guildhall School of Music and Drama; East 15 Acting School; Drama Centre and The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA).
