Sport Btec at Tring School

Course description

Awarding Body: Edexcel

Option Block: A

Through this BTEC course you will learn independantly through completing projects, tasks and assignments that are realistic to the work place within the sports industry. You will develop skills such as ICT skills, problem solving, working with others, independant learning, organisational skills and meeting deadlines, all of which are essential qualities for successful performance in working life.

In the first year you will complete 4 units. This will give you the equivalent of 1 AS level. For each unit there will be a number of tasks or assignments that will allow students to access the assessment criteria.

Course content

Unit 1: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology Sport

Unit 2: The Physiology of Fitness

Unit 3: Assessing Risk in Sport

Unit 4: Fitness Testing for Sport & Excercise

Year 13 BTEC Subsidury Dipolma in Sport In the second year you will complete a further 3 units which will give you the equivalent of 1 A level. For each unit there will be a number of tasks or assignments that will allow students to access the assessment criteria.

This is a follow on course and you must have studied the BTEC Certificate in Sport to continue this course in Year 13. Units involved in this course cover the following areas:

Fitness Training and Programming

Sports Coaching

Sports Development

Practical Sports

Sports Nutrition

Leadership in Sport

Excercise Health and Lifestyle

Psychology for Sports Leadership

Entry requirements

Preferably GCSE PE and a grade B in GCSE in English Language and Maths

Assessment

Both these courses are assessed through the completion of coursework assignments and tasks(not always written) covering the content of each unit. It is 100% coursework and no examination.

Students will be expected to compile a portfolio of evidence throughout the course. As you complete each unit you will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction grade for all the coursework tasks within that unit.

This qualification will enable you to access a wide range of courses related to the sports industry in higher education Related jobs: Sports Centrre/Leisure Centre Sports Coaching Sports Development Outdoor and Activity Centres

University and Higher Education: This course could lead to degrees or BTEC Higher National Diplomas in: Sports Studies Leisure Management Teacher Training
