English Literature AS/A Level at Bury College

Course description

English Literature at A Level is the detailed study of novels, plays and poetry from a range of countries and eras. The course will enable you to develop an understanding of the significance of cultural and contextual influences on both the reader and the writer. Studying English at Bury College with our highly committed and specialist staff will enable you to develop the rigorous critical skills that are required as you will need to be critical of your own work as well as the work of others. In addition, you will need a commitment to a substantial amount of private reading and independent study. You will also have the chance to go on theatre and cultural visits related to the course.

Entry requirements

To study three AS Levels or two AS Levels and one Applied Qualification then the entry requirements are six GCSEs at or above grade C/4 including three subjects at or above grade C/5 which must include GCSE English.Should you wish to study four AS Levels the entry requirements are six GCSEs at or above grade C/4 including two subjects or more at or above grade C/5 and two subjects or more at or above B/6.In addition to the above a minimum of 9 grade points are required from maths and English combined.
