Course content

You will explore the use of branding and the promotional mix in business, learning how a business develops and promotes a brand.

Principles of Customer Service

You will understand how businesses provide customer service and demonstrate appropriate customer service skills in different situations.

Enhancing the Customer Experience

You will learn the value of the customer experience to business and understand why it is important to monitor and evaluate customer service, exploring how enhancements can be made.

Sales and Personal Selling

You will explore the role of sales staff and demonstrate personal selling skills and processes.

Introducing Retail Business

You will explore the structure and organisation of retail business and investigate the relationship between retail business and the external environment.

Recruitment, Selection and Employment

You will learn about job roles and the functional areas in business. This will enable you to produce documentation for specific job roles, demonstrate interview skills and plan career development.

Using Business Documentation

You will be able to produce and know the purpose of written communication in business contexts. You will plan and select appropriate business documents to communicate in different business contexts.

Building Successful Business Teams

You will investigate the importance of teams and team-working, understand the role of the team leader and use skills to demonstrate effective team-working.

Financial Planning and Forecasting

You will demonstrate the use of breakeven analysis and demonstrate the use of cashflow forecasting. You will also investigate the use of budgets and budgetary control in business.

Entry requirements

You have achieved grades 4-3/C-D at GCSE


This BTEC Level 2 Diploma has units that the College assesses internally (outlined above) and units that the Exam Board (Pearson) sets and marks externally.

Finance for Business (Online Test): You will understand the costs involved in business and how business make a profit. From this you will learn how businesses plan for success and understand how businesses measure success and identify areas for improvement.

Principles of Marketing (Written Examination): You will explore the role of marketing within businesses. From this you will consider how businesses use market research to make marketing decisions and will explore the use of marketing mix.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto the Level 3 BTEC courses and these can lead onto Higher Education or employment. Business Studies is always a useful subject, as a large number of people will work within a business or run their own. This course will give you a good grounding in becoming a Manager or for owning your own Business.

One of the main purposes of BTEC qualifications is to help learners to progress ultimately into employment. The vast majority of employers require learners to have certain technical skills, knowledge and understanding to work in a particular sector, but they are also looking for employability skills to ensure that employees are effective in the workplace.
