UAL Theatre Arts, Film & TV Design Diploma Level 3 at Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)

Course description

You will explore Theatre, Film and TV design through practical projects to design sets, costumes, make up (including prosthetics), model making and digital manipulation. You will have the opportunity to take part in collaborative projects with external Theatre groups, both professional and amateur as well as links with the Performing Arts Department in College (BMAPA). Visits to theatres to see productions will be part of the course as research for projects and to broaden your knowledge and cultural references.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including English or maths. Alternatively you need a Level 2 Diploma in a related subject at a Merit or Distinction grade. You will be asked to bring a portfolio of art and design work to interview to make sure this is the right course for you.

Assessment

Throughout the course you will be assessed through your development of practical skills which will include pattern cutting, dark room photography as well as studio design, 3D modelling including clay figure rendering, prosthetic make up skills and idea generating through research and analysing theatre, film and TV productions.

You could consider a career in any area covered in the course. This could be by directly into employment or through progression via a specialist higher education course.

The campus includes a state of the art library and learning resource centre, a performing arts theatre, an industry standard design studio as well as laboratory and sports facilities.
