BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Art and Design at St John Rigby College

Course description

This course is equivalent to 2 GCSEs and is a one-year course. This six unit course follows a very practical programme of study and will offer a basic understanding of Art and Design. Students will develop areas of 2D and 3D Design, Art History, Photography, Graphic Design and Creative I.T. Progress is assessed by regular tutorials and ongoing assessment of assignment work and special projects. There is ample opportunity to take part in educational visits. Alongside this course you will have the opportunity to improve your GCSE grade in English, Science or Mathematics.

Entry requirements

4 GCSE passes at Grade D or above including English Language and Art or Art based course (please refer to the Entry Requirements section page 32 for further details).

Assessment

Formal assessment will take place on completion of projects. There are 6 units in total, two are externally set and the remaining four are internally set.

Future opportunities

The BTEC First Certificate is ideal preparation for further study. Most students who achieve a Merit grade overall, could progress to an A Level or BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design at the College. Alternatively students may enter related employment. Progression to Level 3 Courses at St John Rigby College is dependent upon meeting the entry requirement for that course and passing GCSE English minimum Grade C. Further details are available on page 32.
