Art & Design - BTEC Foundation Diploma at Sutton College of Learning for Adults - SCOLA

Course description

This is an intensive, exciting course to introduce students to different art & craft disciplines including 2D fine art painting & drawing including mixed media, printmaking, graphic design; 3D design including ceramics & jewellery; and photography including the use of creative digital media. The emphasis of the course will be on developing core skills; experimentation and personal response; improving research skills; the importance of reflective journals and sketchbooks; researching the work of artists, traditional & contemporary. This is an ideal course for those wishing to join an Arts College. Students will produce a portfolio of work and a final exhibition of their Final Major Project and will be advised on possible progression routes onto higher level courses. The course is in 3 sections: Stage 1 (exploratory) Stage 2 (pathway) where the student will choose 2 specialisms to follow Stage 3 (confirmatory) which consists of the Final Major Project in a chosen pathway. There is the opportunity to achieve pass, merit or distinction in this final phase. How the course will be assessed Stage 1 (exploratory) & Stage 2 (pathway) are assessed by your tutors and internally moderated and verified. Stage 3 (confirmatory - Final Major Project) is internally moderated and externally verified by EDEXCEL.

Entry requirements

1 A Level & 3 GCSEs(A-C) or a portfolio of work which demonstrates evidence of having achieved a standard which will enable the learner to benefit from the course. This course is suitable for school leavers & mature students.

Future opportunities

This qualification broadens horizons through exposure to wide ranging concepts, media and processes. Preparation for progression is embedded within each of the three stages of the course. It consolidates students’ future aims and informs on progression routes through in-depth experience in aspects of art and design, also giving an awareness and understanding of professional practice. It promotes understanding of the vast range of career opportunities within the art and design field, in HE and the art and design employment sector.
