Course description

Beauty Therapy is a diverse and thriving industry that offers an interesting and rewarding career to the dedicated professional.

In today’s competitive business climate, it’s more important than ever for people to achieve recognised qualifications. The Selby College Aspire Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Department is renowned as a high quality training establishment for people wishing to work in the industry.

Course content

It should be noted that there is a large amount of science involved in this course, in addition to which you will study:

• Health and Safety

• Customer Care

• Team Building

• Facials

• Make-up You will also study an intensive Anatomy and Physiology qualification.

You will be taught in our state-of-the-art salon, which is open to the general public and mirrors the industry; you will therefore be assessed not only in aspects of Beauty Therapy but also on professionalism, punctuality and reliability.

You will also be expected to complete 80 hours’ work experience in a salon. This may involve travelling some distance and working late evenings where necessary.

Please note: If you have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.

Entry requirements

Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply. For this course you will preferably have two GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in English and a Science.

Assessment

Coursework/Practical.

Future opportunities

Progression on to the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy from this programme is subject to the successful completion of this qualification, evidence of progression in English and Maths, with a successful interview and reference. Many students also choose an Apprenticeship to earn whilst they learn and continue their studies.
