Business Studies GCE A Level at Greenhead College

Course description

The subject follows the new Edexcel specification and is a linear course, with examinations at the end of the two years.

Business Studies develops understanding of how businesses of all kinds operate and how they react to the world around them. 

Course content

The course moves from small business start-ups through to large multinationals and strategic decisions such as mergers and takeovers.  Particular emphasis is placed on the study of marketing, finance, production and human resources roles within business. The course includes opportunities for visits to local, national and international businesses.

Entry requirements

The college gives priority to its 12 partner schools. Places are offered to other applicants on a competitive basis.

All prospective students must achieve a GCSE grade 4 or higher in GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics.

To access a three A Level programme a student must achieve, in addition to the above, a minimum of grade 6's in three GCSE subjects.

Students who achieve a grade 8/9 profile at GCSE will be offered the opportunity to study for four A Levels.

Assessment

This course is linear. The A Level is assessed after two years of study. 

A1 Theme 1: Marketing and People

A1 Theme 2: Managing Business Activities

A2 Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy

A2 Theme 4: Global Business

Future opportunities

This subject relates to a host of exciting management and business careers. Students can specialise in the fields of marketing, finance or business management among with many other areas.
