Music Performance:Level 2 at Suffolk New College

Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Music provides an excellent opportunity to broaden your musical knowledge and the music business. You will also develop your playing skills through both practical and academic study. This course will give you the foundations from which to develop yourself as a practicing musician, as well as teaching you the skills you need to study music at a higher level.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Course content

This study programme allows you to explore various elements of music. It is made up of units which include performance, rehearsal, musicianship, recorded music and planning a music event. You will be expected to study approximately 16 hours in College as well as completing self-directed private study. This study programme is aimed at students who want to develop their musical knowledge as well as their playing and performance skills. You will be advised about the progression opportunities available to you and prepare for this.

 

 

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3, (or their equivalent) and successful interview.

Tuition Costs

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.

Additional Costs

There is a £50 materials payment to be made, to cover specialist workshop materials and music grade examinations.  

 

 

Future opportunities

80% of Level 2 music students progressed on to the Level 3 Music Performance course with 10% going on to study Music Technology and 10% going into employment.
