BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Business at The Robert Napier School

Course description

The 60-credit BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. This six-units require students to develop their ability to acquire a range of important and transferable skills including data skills, presenting arguments, making judgments and conducting research.

The course has been designed to help students: • Develop a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value • Be aware that business behaviour can be studied from the perspectives of a range of stakeholders • Acquire a range of skills including decision-making and problem-solving • Be aware of the current structure of business and business practice. This course is particularly suitable for students who are willing to do presentations, work in a group, research business via the internet and for those who are interested in and enjoy working with numbers to interpret and understand the financial side of business – making that all important profit.

Course content

The course requires the completion of four mandatory units:

Unit 1: The Business Environment

Unit 2: Business Resources

Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing

Unit 4: Business Communication

Two further units will be selected from a diverse range.


Entry requirements

Preferred but not essential C grade in GCSE Business Studies

Or Pass Level in BTEC First Award in Business


Assessment is 100% assignment based.

Future opportunities

The course supports learners who wish to pursue further studies in Business, Administration & Accounting related courses at university or in applying for jobs in business-related careers such as accounting, administration, customer service, finance, IT, personnel or sales.
