Business Level 3 (Peaks) at Sheffield College
This is a two year full time course
If you are interested in a future career and Higher Education related to business and management this could be the course for you. You will learn all about the exciting world of business and have the opportunity to apply your learning in a practical and realistic way.
You will develop your skills and knowledge of different aspects of business which can also help you decide which business career or Higher Education course you want to move into.
- The different types of businesses and how they are organised
- How the different resources needed to make businesses work efficiently are managed e.g. workforce and finance
- The tools and techniques used in modern marketing
- The different types of communication techniques used in business
- Understanding financial information
- Creative product promotion concepts, to include the design of a promotional campaign
- The role of the internet in modern marketing
- Managing people
- How to set up your own business
5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English Language & Maths
BTEC courses are assessed mostly by course work including practical assignments, discussions and presentations. Coursework will be based around practical business exercises and you will be encouraged to utilise your own experiences of business you may have developed through part-time work or work placements. There may also be some exams.
At The Sheffield College we will always do our best to support you through your studies, to make them as stress free as possible. We have a specialist support team who can give you all the advice you need on all things financial, including what might be available to you, so that you don’t go short and you can concentrate all your efforts into your studies.
If you meet the eligibility criteria we’ll be able to support you with free meals. You’ll get an amount of money that you can use within the college shops and diners per day. This will be added to your student ID card which you will just swipe to purchase items.
Students (including Apprentices) of The Sheffield College who live in South Yorkshire are eligible for a 16–18 Student Pass which entitles pass holders to cheaper travel on buses and trams in South Yorkshire. Pass holders are also entitled to half fare on Northern train services in South Yorkshire.

Where Can It Lead?
This course opens up a wide range of opportunities such as the ability to progress on to a degree or foundation degree in a wide range of subjects such as business, marketing, IT, accountancy, teaching or law. Alternatively students could enter employment in various areas of business such as accounts and finance, human resources, local government, logistics, marketing or retailing.
You will be expected to contribute towards the cost of trips and visits. You may be entitled to help with the cost of these and anything else you need to buy for your course from the college Learner Support Fund
