Engineering Advanced Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This Diploma is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ) and has been developed by EAL as a response to the demands of the engineering industry.  This qualification is recognised as the technical certificate for the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship.

  • Maintenance of Mechanical Systems
  • Programmable Logic Controls
  • Electrical/Electronic Maintenance
  • Hydraulics / Pneumatics
  • Electrical Systems

You will also develop your skills in Maths and English which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.

Entry requirements

Offers of a place on the course are dependent on qualifications (D or above at GCSE level) and practical aptitude following a successful interview and initial assessment. Parents, guardians or carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment.


Internal and external assessments will take place. In addition a portfolio of evidence is collected to demonstrate your competence and knowledge.

Financial information

You need overalls and boots for workshop activity. Learners may be expected to purchase Academy uniforms (supplied internally).

Future opportunities

You can progress to the NVQ Level 3/4 in your chosen discipline, to an advanced or higher apprenticeship or to other appropriate educational courses such as the Subsidiary Diploma which provides access to higher education (Foundation Degree).
