Physics at The Hewett School
AQA Physics (AS /A2) is a balanced combination of Pure and Applied Physics and will provide you with a solid foundation for further study in this subject or a related subject at a higher level. You will look at the quest to unravel the complexity of the universe to discover how and why it works as well as giving an appreciation of the role of Physics in today’s ever increasing technological society. If you have an enquiring mind, are adaptable and like challenges then you will enjoy studying Physics. Students at The Hewett School do particularly well compared to all schools nationally. Every year several students gain 100% in their examination modules.
The course will enable you to develop a wide variety of skills. It will help you to solve problems, carry out practical work with care, write in a clear and precise manner, further your numeracy skills and extend your use of ICT particularly in the area of data logging. A qualification in physics is recognised and valued by a wide range of employers as an acknowledgment that you have acquired these skills.
During the course you will study particle physics, electricity, mechanics, waves and nuclear physics. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to experiment with your new knowledge.
A qualification in Physics or a related subject can lead you to an enjoyable and rewarding career where you can use your imagination, your practical ability and your creative flair. You could work in a large number of areas such as scientific research, astronomy, medicine, meteorology, transport design, telecommunications, scientific journalism, ITC, material science, construction industry and all types of engineering. In fact the list is endless!
With fewer people now studying Physics or a related subject at university you should have no difficulty obtaining a well-paid job and it is possible to obtain a bursary or to be sponsored while studying. If you decide to follow a completely different career path the ideas, techniques and ways of thinking that you have learnt will help you to approach problems in a logical manner and to understand the scientific and technological information in the media, which is so much part of modern life and which shapes our world.
