Possible units to be studied are Core Mathematics C1 AS Unit Algebra and functions, co-ordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, sequences and series, differentiation and integration. Core Mathematics C2 AS Unit Algebra and functions, co-ordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation and integration. Core Mathematics C3 A2 Unit Algebra and functions, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, numerical methods. Core Mathematics C4 A2 Unit Algebra and functions, co-ordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, sequences and series differentiation, integration, vectors. Mechanics M1 AS Unit Mathematical models, vectors, kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line, dynamics of a particle moving in a straight line or plane, statics of a particle, moments. Statistics S1 AS Unit Mathematical models, representation and summary of data, probability, correlation and regression, discrete random variables, discrete distributions, the Normal distribution.
Students need to have taken the “Higher Tier” level at GCSE and obtained at least a Grade A to be considered for A - Level Mathematics. It is a demanding discipline and must be approached as such. Students must be prepared for hard work, constant practice and the necessity to meet deadline dates for assignments.
Advanced level Mathematics is an acceptable entry qualification into careers in banking, accountancy and other financial and business areas, engineering, computing, electronics, surveying, architecture etc.
