Apprenticeships - Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Accountancy at Wakefield College

Course description

The programme is for capable individuals wishing to pursue a career in accounting and/or finance through the combination of actual employment and the achievement of nationally recognised qualifications.

Course content

What you will study

* Basic costing
* Computerised accounting
* Working effectively in accounting and finance
* Processing book-keeping transactions
* Control accounts, journals and the banking system
* Employment responsibilities and rights at work
* AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (2013 standards
* Functional Skills English up to a minimum of Level 2
* Functional Skills Maths up to a minimum of Level 1

How you will learn

The majority of your skills and knowledge will be developed through your employer and the job that you do.  This will be complemented and supported by your planned training programme incorporating attendance on the College‚Äôs courses in Accounting and Functional Skills.

Entry requirements

Flexible depending on age and experience GCSEs A*-C (or new grade 9-4) in English and Maths OR Level 1 literacy and numeracy qualifications If you do not have these, we can assess your current level of literacy/numeracy


Assessment will be continuous and take place in both the workplace and the College.  There will be a combination of computer based assessments and projects or work-based evidence.
Assessment with be through unit assessments or synoptic assessment.

Financial information

There are no costs to students aged between 16 and 18.

The Apprenticeship in Accounting will equip you for a career in Accountancy and provide you with the qualifications to pursue Professional status through The Chartered Accounting bodies.
