Physical Education at Harris Academy Chafford Hundred

Course description

This course gives students a clear appreciation of key issues in physical education including balanced, active and healthy lifestyles, a focus on performance in practical activity, and the opportunity to pursue particular areas of interest.






Course content

Unit 1: Physiology Factors that affect performance

Units studied:

  • Applied anatomy and physiology
  • Exercise physiology
  • Biomechanics

Unit 2: Psychological Factors Affecting Performance

Units studied:

  • Skill acquisition
  • Sports Psychology

Unit 3: Socio-Cultural issues in Physical Activity and Sport

Units studied:

  • Sport and Society
  • Contemporary Issues in Physical Activity and Sport

Unit 4: Performance in Physical Education (Coursework)

  • Performance or Coaching (Practical Options Available)
  • Evaluation and Analysis of Performance for Improvement (EAPI)



Entry requirements

An average Attainment 8 score of 5.5 as well as a Grade 5 in English Language or Literature. Other requirements include a GCSE B Grade in PE, or Distinction in PE BTEC. Candidates are also required to have a GCSE Grade B in Core or Additional Science or Biology. Alongside this they must also be actively involved in sport outside of the academy.


Unit 1: Examination 2 hours

90 marks (30% of final grade)

Unit 2: Examination 1 hour

60 marks (20% of final grade)

Unit 3: Examination 1 hour

60 marks (20% of final grade)

Unit 4: Internally Assessed Coursework (30% of final grade)
