AS and A2 Level Sport and Physical Education at William Farr CofE Comprehensive School

Course description

The aims of this course are that by learning in, about and through physical activity, candidates should be able to:

  • Develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the factors, which influence the quality of performance.
  • Apply knowledge, skills and understanding to improve performance.
  • Evaluate performance and plan for the improvement of it.
  • Develop an understanding of the socio-cultural, moral, global and contemporary factors in physical education, which affect participation in and provision for sport and physical activity.

The course is ideal for any student wishing to develop their interest in sport and physical education. It combines well with a number of other subjects and is readily accepted as an entry qualification for higher education. There may also be a requirement to undertake a coaching/officiating course.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE Physical Education if studied – but this is not a compulsory requirement and grade B in Science is advisable. (See also information relating to entry requirement on P5).
