Beauty Therapy - NVQ 2 at Queensbury School

Course description

This course is offered by ‘Go Live’. Go-live is a programme of learning that allows students to study for a vocational qualification. Two days each week you will be out of school with a training provider and the remaining days will be in school working on other projects. The programme is for students aged 16-19.

Course content

Would you like an exciting career working in the beauty therapy industry? This nationally recognised course will give you the opportunity to do just that. You will learn many of the necessary skills to enable you to deliver the quality services which this industry offers.

The course runs over two days a week and consists of both practical and theoretical work. You will be trained in our modern, fully equipped salons, which create realistic working conditions and you will be provided with a uniform to wear.

Each student is taught the practical skills needed to gain employment in the beauty therapy industry. You will receive training in skin care, facials, make up, manicures and pedicures. In addition you could opt to study waxing techniques, assisting with spa treatments and fulfilling basic salon reception duties. This course offers you the opportunity to develop and maintain your own effectiveness at work and encourages you to learn about client consultation and advice.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications. All students are required to attend an interview prior tobeing accepted onto the course and will need to carry out a basic skills assessment.

What we are looking for are enthusiastic students who genuinely want to improve themselves. Academic ability, although important to all courses, is secondary to commitment and a willingness to work hard. This is a course that valuespractical skills and the ability to work with others in school and at an external training provider.

If you are interested in this course, you must speak to your Head of Year in the first instance.

Assessment

To support the practical side of the course you will be expected to complete a portfolio of written work. The course is assessed through regular observations and practical assessments and you will have access to a one-to-one review of your learning plans when you will be given written feedback.

Future opportunities

This qualification provides the knowledge and practical skills which enables the student to progress onto a NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy or onto the City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy. Alternatively, employers would recognise this qualification and welcome students with the level of knowledge this course provides.
