Section A – Materials and Components: The relationship between health and diet and how you really ‘are what you eat’.
Section B – Design and Market Influences: How do you create the perfect design for a food product? Which factors influence our food choices? How influenced are we by the media and advertising? How does Society play a role in our diet?
Section C – Process and Manufacture: How do you work safely and hygienically in the food environment? This Section also provides you with the opportunity to gain a food hygiene certificate which is essential for employment in the food industry.
Section A – Materials and Components: We now begin to really study the food we eat by taking a look at what nutrients are present and how they have an effect on our senses.
Section B – Design and Market Influences: This module looks at the issues affecting new product design and the stages in development of existing and new food products.
Section C – Processes and Manufacture: This module looks at developing further understanding of the microbiological and quality control aspects of industrial food production.
During Year 12 you will complete a piece of coursework about ‘Learning through Designing and Making’ (50% of AS and 25% of A2) and an exam about ‘Materials, Components and Application’ (50% of AS and 25% of A2).
During Year 13 you will complete a piece of coursework about ‘Design and Making Practice’ (25% of A2) and an exam about ‘Design and Manufacture’ (25% of A2).
