Public Services BTEC Level 1 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course provides an introduction to the public service sector and investigates careers and issues within the Army, Royal Navy, Marines, Air Force, Ambulance, Police, Fire Service, Paramedics and Prison.

Course content

You will study the following: • Careers • Health and Fitness • Public Services Skills • Teamwork • Public Services Incidents • Map Reading/Expedition Skills • Leadership • Planning an Event

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade A*-C in these subjects. If you have a grade D at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. 

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D-G preferably including English or maths. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including course work and practical performance. There are no formal examinations 

Financial information

£45.00 charge for equipment and visit costs. 

Future opportunities

The course can lead onto a career in the public services or progressions to a level 2 course. 

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Public Services and Functional Skills qualifications.

You will be expected to undertake occasional home study on this course.
