Brickwork:Level 2 at Suffolk New College

Course description

On this study programme, you will have the opportunity to improve and develop your skills in our workshops. There is the chance to show off your skills and participate in competitions, such as Skill Build, World Skills and other national and local competitions. You will also visit a variety of exhibitions and construction sites, as well as working on community projects outside the college. The study programme will also develop your personal, social and employability skills. You will learn about the trade and find out how you can get a job by support from the team and local and national employers.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or 4, or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Course content

Learn the techniques used in modern building methods that will prepare you for working as a skilled bricklayer. These include solid wall construction, cavity wall construction and setting out masonry structures. All teaching will take place in our fully equipped workshop and classrooms under guidance from highly qualified and experienced staff. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying or relevant industrial experience

Tuition Costs 

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.  

Future opportunities

95% of students who completed this programme have progressed onto the next level of study or have gone into employment, with some further work based training, or working on a construction site carrying out tasks, such as: working to specifications, setting out basic structures, building brick and block walling, laying domestic drainage, placing and finishing concrete and render surfaces.
