‘A’ LEVEL BIOLOGY at Selby College

Course description

A qualification in Biology can lead to a wide variety of courses and careers. During the course you will study all aspects of the science of life and living things.

If you have a keen interest in science, are prepared to work hard and would like to find out more about Biology then this is the course for you.

Course content

You will study a range of areas, including:

• Biological Molecules

• Cells

• Cell Division

• DNA

• The Environment

The work involves a mixture of class teaching, research, group work and practical lab work which may be assessed.

If you are not studying Maths or Chemistry you will need to study Core Maths.

Entry requirements

Standard ‘A’ Level entry requirements apply. For this course you must also have Grade 6 in Maths and a Grade 6 in Biology or Double Science.

Assessment

100% Exam.

Future opportunities

In order to be able to study Biology at university, you will need to have studied Chemistry at ‘A’ Level as well.

Studying Biology with subjects such as Chemistry, Maths, Physics or Geography could lead to a range of Further or Higher Education courses, such as Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Veterinary Science and Environmental Science.

Alternatively, you will be well-equipped to pursue careers in a science-based industry or business.
