Creative Media - Digital Production Level 1 at Sheffield College

Course description

This is a one year full time course.

About the course

This Digital Production course covers a range of subjects from video and audio production to photography and image manipulation.  No previous experience is required but you need to be interested in how media products are produced.  The course is very practical in nature. You will design and produce a series of products across a number of assignments.  You will have training on professional production and editing equipment.

On the course, you will study a wide range of subjects that will give you a broad experience in production.  This will allow you to explore many options that you can then take to your studies to a higher level.

As a part of this course you will improve your communication skills and develop independent learning techniques.  On your programme you will study for English and Maths qualifications, if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C.

There is a £25 studio fee that will enable you access to all of the necessary materials for the full year.  Course enrichment activities can include trips, visits and sessions by guest speakers to help broaden your studies whilst on the course.  You may be entitled to help from the college’s Learner Support Fund with the cost of trips and anything else you need to buy for your course.

Staff and Facilities

You will learn from highly qualified and experienced staff with a range of academic and professional media experience. The course will be based in the new building at Hillsborough College or at Peaks College.  You will have access to excellent facilities to help you with your productions.

Will this course suit me?

If you enjoy hands on production and have a curiosity as to how media products are made, this could be the course for you. You should have a positive attitude, a lively and enquiring mind and a willingness to explore new ideas.

Our Hillsborough campus in the north of the city is our creative hub with Art and Design, Photography, Fashion, and Music all based at the campus alongside more traditional courses such as A-Levels and our strong Sports base.

The facilities at Hillsborough really have to be seen to be believed (why don’t you check out the tour!) from shiny Mac suites, which there are numerous, to sprung dance studios, a theatre and a TV studio.

Hillsborough’s not just for those who are confident on the stage or in front of the camera, it also has a stage production workshop for set design and prop making, a wire tension grid which provides a strong, safe and virtually invisible platform for lighting changes to be made.

Hillsborough also has a gym, a 3G sports pitch and a sports hall which is available for use for all, not just those studying Sport.

If you need childcare, no problem! The Hillsborough campus has an Ofsted Outstanding rated nursery onsite.
