Physical Education A Level at Minsthorpe Community College, A Specialist Science College
The course entails a large theoretical element studying a variety of topics. It allows the student to look into the different strands of sport and physical activity in great detail varying from Anatomy and physiology to the importance of sport in society. it has a section of interest for everyone.
The topics include anatomy and Physiology, Skill acquisition and the importance of sport in the society. These topics are then studied in more detail in the second year. The practical element includes a performance in a fully competitive situation and a written analysis of performance.
Min 6 in GCSE PE & 6 in Biology + 3 other Grade 9-4 or A*-C GCSEs (if you haven’t studied GCSE PE 5 A*-C / 9-4 Grades with B/6 in Core & Additional Science)
70% theory - 2x2hour exams 30% practical element - 15% performance 15% coursework.
Studying Physical Education will allow you develop a range of valuable skills, which will prepare you for both higher education as well as the world of employment. Physical Education students often progress to study Physical Education, Sports Development, Sports Management, Sport and Exercise Science, Sport and Business as well as many more courses at university.
Additional revision sessions will take place in the lead up the exam.
