Edexcel Psychology A level - 2 year course
The A level Psychology course includes the study of:
All topics include research methods
Year 1 -
Social psychology including obedience, predudice and discrimination. Cognitive psychology including the structure and function of memory. Biological psychology including the structure and function of the brain. Learning theories including the role of conditioning in phobias and eating disorders.
Year 2 -
One compulsory topic of Clinical psychology. A choice of one topic from Criminological psychology, Health psychology and Child psychology. Psychological skills including research methods and issues and debates in psychology.
Grade 5 or above in GCSE English and Maths and Grade B or above in a GCSE Science.
Year 1 - Two 1.5 hour written exams, externally assessed (AS by negotiation only)
Year 2 - Three 2 hour written exams, externally assessed (Full A level)
You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as a science or one of the humanities to prepare for higher education in Psychology or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Psychology and people such as a Counsellor, Nurse or Psychologist. You could also specialise in a particular area of Psychology such as education or mental health depending on the area that interests you.
