Hair and Media Make Up Level 3 at Calderdale College
The course covers professional make up and hairdressing techniques that are used in fashion, T.V, film, theatre and photographic industries.

Hair and Media Make-up covers creative hair techniques for images including avant garde, themes and commercial looks. Styling and fitting pastiche for historical and character looks will also be included. Designing and applying face and body art and air brush techniques to the face along with developing skills in fashion, photographic, camouflage and media make up which includes the use of prosthetics, scarring, burns, bruises and other casualty effects will be interesting and exciting and prepare you with the necessary skills to work in the creative industry. For photographic make up you will cover special occasion make up, current trends and historical/period make up.
The course is based on development and assessment of practical skills, underpinning knowledge which is assignment work and on line tests. You will use a range of research methods to create design plans to which you will develop the appropriate skills and techniques to suit the design objective. Completion of assessments builds a portfolio of evidence. Work experience is essential to meet the qualification requirements.
5 GCSE’s at C or above to include English or a relevant Level 2 qualification. GCSE Art is preferred but not compulsory. Applicants should have a make up qualification and hairdressing experience would be an advantage. Applicants must be enthusiastic, committed and with an artistic flair. Mature applicants with experience will be considered at interview.
In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived. Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.
