Textiles (Art validated) at The Sixth Form College Colchester
This is an exciting practical course for those wishing to follow an art-based approach to textiles and design. Students will be introduced to a wide range of textile processes related to fabric construction, surface pattern and fashion.
The emphasis will be on building and developing skills so you will need to have a skill or interest in textiles and be prepared to use drawing as a starting point for designs. There will be opportunities for working with both traditional and new technologies. The study of images, artefacts and resources relating to a range of art and design and textiles from both recent and historical sources will act as a starting point and underpin much of the work carried out.
Although previous study is not essential, a real interest and enthusiasm is important. Students are expected to have some practical experience of working with textiles. A grade C in GCSE Art or Textiles is the minimum requirement. If these subjecs have not been studied to GCSE level, students can request an 'entry assessment task' from the Admissions Office (please email: firstname.lastname@example.org).
