Music A2 at Hayes School
AS/A2 Music builds on the skills developed in GCSE Music: performing, composing, and listening. Fluent reading and writing of conventional musical notation is essential. Course content Students study extracts of music from two Areas of Study, looking into their style, structure, compositional techniques and historical background. At least one of the Areas of Study will be from the Western classical tradition. They will learn to identify musical characteristics from a wide range of styles both through listening and by studying musical scores. Compositional techniques such harmonising a melody will be studied, alongside the development of students’ own creative compositional skills. Solo and ensemble performance is required throughout the course. Exam: 70% (40% performing, 30% listening and analysis) Coursework: 30%

With further training, you could go into a job related to Music such as a Music Composer, Musician, Sound Technician or you may wish to use your music ability for recreational purposes. You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in Music related courses or more general higher education courses. The course is designed to provide you with access to a range of music related employment and will also develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of other industries are looking for.
