WACC Health and Social Care Academy at Walsall Adult & Community College

Course description

WACC Pre-Apprentice Academies are designed with and by employers to get you ready for any apprentice opportunities.

 

A Pre-apprentice Academy programme offers 25 weeks of job-related training plus at least 4 weeks working with an employer in their company or on-site for work experience.

 

During the training you develop the basic technical skills in a specific job area as well as the wider skills employers want. This includes English, maths, ICT, time-keeping, teamwork, problem solving, presentation skills and interview techniques to get you work ready.

If you are a school leaver or unemployed when you join our Pre-apprentice Academy Programme, you will continue to claim all benefits to which you are entitled. Plus fantastic incentives and additional financial support through a FREE travel pass, FREE lunch, FREE work wear, course equipment and a FREE Netbook.

All you need to do is have excellent attendance, work hard on developing your skills and attitude for employment.

Course content

This course offers you the opportunity to learn about Health and Social Care and will provide you with a foundation across all the areas involved in Health and Social Care. This course offers you the opportunity to make an informed choice about the different career paths available to you in the care sector,

This course is a full-time course and you will get a training allowance to support you. You will also be given a bus pass to cover all transport costs and you will be given a notebook laptop on completion of the course subject to attendance and achievement.

This course is offered at our site at WACC Hawbush Centre, Leamore and at our Whitehall Centre, Caldmore.

Depending on your progress, you will gain a level 1 Certificate in Health and Social Care, Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English and a Level 1 Award in Employability.  

 

Entry requirements

To gain entry onto this course you need to be working at Entry 3 in both Maths and English. To succeed on the course you will need to attend regularly and actively participate in learning activities in class.

Assessment

To apply for this course you will be assessed to attend an information day to find out more about the course. If you decide you would like to apply our helpful guidance staff will be on hand to support you through the application process.

 

Financial information

This course is FREE for anyone age 16-18 years old and 18 -24 years old if you are inreceipt of a means tested benefit.

Future opportunities

Achievement of these qualifications is the first step in a ladder of progression either to a Apprenticeship, Employment or further study.

    • Walsall Adult and Community offer learning that is local to you - only a walk, bus or bike ride away. Our two main learning centres are at Hawbush Centre in Leamore and our Whitehall Centre in Caldmore - both at the heart of the community.
