Music at Eaton Bank Academy

Course description

The Music AS and A level build upon your work at GCSE level and involve performing, composition and the study of a variety of musical compositions.

The course gives you the opportunity to develop your musical skills and to explore new ideas you never knew you had.
Music is taught in a purpose built department where you will receive excellent teaching in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The very best music technology is available to you throughout the school week.


Performance

You will perform two short recital for the AS level lasting for about 5 to 8 minutes which should be around grade 5 level. The pieces for both AS and A level will be of your own choosing.

At A level the recital will last for 10-15 minutes and will be around grade 6/7 standard.

Composition

At AS level you are required to compose one piece based on a given brief.

At A level you will compose another piece based on one brief from a choice of three.

Influences on Music

You will study a variety of pieces from many eras and genres leading to a final listening and written exam. There are two essay questions one on each of the Areas of Study. New pieces are studied in greater depth for the A Level examination.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade C or above.

To be accepted on the course you should ideally be able to perform at grade 5 standard and have achieved a C grade in Music GCSE.
