Psychology A2 at Dixons Allerton Academy

Course description

Course Content: This course will appeal to students who enjoy exploring issues dealing with how and why people behave in certain ways and who want to find out more about people’s behaviour and their environment. They will also enjoy planning and carrying out investigations to look for any patterns and explanations in the behaviour of children and adults.

Course content

AS Unit 1: Social and Cognitive Psychology. Where we examine obedience and prejudice, memory and forgetting.

AS Unit 2: Understanding the individual. We will develop an understanding of Psychological issues of development, individual differences, and Biology through the approaches.A2 Unit 3: Applications of Psychology. Here you will select two from the following four areas of study, Criminological Psychology, Child Psychology Health Psychology: substance misuse or Sport Psychology.

A2 Unit 4: How Psychology works. This includes Clinical Psychology and the Issues and Debates which underpin the study of Psychology.

Entry requirements

Entry at 16+. A minimum of 5 or more GCSE grades C or above.

Careers and opportunities for further study

AS/ A2 Psychology supports progression into further education, training or employment. Students can enter general degrees or specialize in areas such as, counselling Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Sport and Exercise, Teaching and Research or Health Psychology. This subject is now recognised as a Science A Level and links with Biology, Maths, Health and Social Care, and English.
