Sport Studies - Advanced at Eccles Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is offered at foundation, intermediate and advanced levels.This BTEC course is practical and work-related. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. All of our college sites have a dedicated sports hall and various other facilities including an all-weather football pitch and fitness suites.

Course content

You will develop the abilities, skills and techniques that are essential for working in the sport and leisure industry. Topics include:• The body in action• Health and safety in sport• Training and fitness• Team sports• Coaching• Psychology for sports performanceAt advanced level, you will have the opportunity to study more specialised topics such as:• Sports nutrition• Refereeing• Sport as a business• Sports injuriesYou will also learn employability skills.

Entry requirements

5 Cs/4s at GCSE


The course is assessed through a combination of practical and theoretical assessments

Financial information

All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen

Future opportunities

You could gain employment in the sports industry in health clubs, leisure centres and other related businesses. Advanced level students can go on to university to study degrees in sports science, rehabilitation, management, therapy and coaching.
