Floristry Diploma Level 2 at Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)

Course description

If you are creative and interested in floristry as a potential new career, to gain further skills and knowledge within the floristry industry or just as a hobby to build your own business upon, this is the course for you.
This course provides a wide knowledge base covering all areas of floristry including the principles and elements of floral design, along with practical hands on experience of a vast range of floral designs within wedding, funeral, hand tied and floral arrangement type work.
The course will be delivered at the world famous Birmingham Botanical Gardens and also within the serine, tranquil Edwardian splendour of Winterbourne Botanical Gardens based at the University of Birmingham. The course will be taught by professional, knowledgeable and experienced tutors based in the floristry industry.
Topics include: Introduction to Art and Design for Florists; Identification and Monitoring the Quality of Cut Materials; Identification and Maintenance of Plants and Planted Designs; Planning, Preparation and Construction of Tied Designs; Funeral Designs; Floral Arrangements and Wedding Designs; Display of Floristry Goods; Function decorating Using Floral Displays; and Working Within the Floristry Industry.

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSE's at grade D or above including maths and English or a Level 1 related subject. You should also have a keen interest in floristry and principles of art and design.

Assessment

You will learn through hands on practical sessions involving; construction of floral designs, floral displays, floral decoration of venues and care and maintenance of fresh floral materials, along with written assignments, short identification tests and weekly write ups of your designs to build up your own professional, floristry portfolio.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed this year, you could continue onto the Level 3 Diploma in Floristry, or gain employment within the floristry industry.
