French - A Level (Aqa) at The Cotswold Academy

Course description

About the syllabus:

We prepare our students for the AQA syllabus in French with lessons designed to enhance our students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills that were first forged at GCSE level.

Over the A Level years, our students grow in fluency and confidence, learning to communicate with increasing ease on a number of topical issues and in general conversation. Students of French benefit from a weekly lesson with a native French speaker, brushing up their conversational and debating skills. Our students are also encouraged to spend at least one of their free lessons a week in reading French to improve fluency and comprehension.

Learning vocabulary and perfecting its use forms a large part of A Level French, as does grammar. Written work is produced weekly and students should be prepared to carry out extra listening practice at home.

As well as immersing our students in French culture, literature, film and current affairs at school, we also offer our students the chance to take part in a French exchange/work experience in France. We enjoy a strong relationship, developed over many years, with a secondary school based in Brittany. It is expected that all our students will be eager to take up this very valuable opportunity.

Learning a foreign language means vastly improving your chances in the job market, broadening your horizons and building your confidence and ability to communicate with people from other cultures.
