Fashion Design Extended Diploma Level 3 at Gloucestershire College

Course description

The Fashion industry currently presents an exciting area of development for Gloucestershire College.
With the rise in popularity of fashion related TV programmes, including Mr Selfridge, Britain’s Next Top Model, Gok’s Fashion Fix and the Great British Sewing Bee, along with high profile events such as London, New York and Paris Fashion Week – there are many opportunities for our learners to enrich their learning opportunities alongside their fashion courses.
To become a fashion designer, you will need to have a good eye for colour, texture and shape; an understanding of how different fabrics can be used; technical skills such as pattern cutting and sewing; and the ability to spot and develop trends.
You will need to have an understanding of production processes, the ability to solve problems, commercial awareness and the ability to work as part of a team. You’ll  also need good drawing skills as well as the ability to use computer design  packages.

Course content

The course includes:

  • Fashion research
  • Design
  • Illustration pattern and garment manufacture 
  • Methods to promote your designs and concepts
  • Completing a portfolio of work and
  • Catwalk show

Entry requirements

You will need to have 4-5 GCSE's at A* to C Grade including English and Maths.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of the course students can progress to the Level 4/5 HNC/HND in Creative Practice or the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Gloucestershire College.
