Spanish A Level at Clacton County High School
This course provides a logical progression from GCSE, offering skill-specific testing and a focus on language. This speaking unit rewards students for their ability to converse in Spanish on a general topic area that they have chosen in advance. Students will need to demonstrate that they can engage in a discussion that relates to a chosen general topic area and allied subtopics. This is an 8 – 10 minute conversation that is externally assessed and makes up 30% of the qualification.
Students will develop research and reading skills with integrated skills assessment and acknowledges the importance of knowledge and understanding of the Spanish culture. Students will need to understand and convey their understanding of language texts and recordings, through listening and reading exams. In addition, students will need to produce an essay to demonstrate an ability to manipulate Spanish in continuous writing.
Students will be expected to recognise and use Spanish in a variety of contexts and in relation to a prescribed range of general topic areas. These include: youth culture and concerns; lifestyle, health and fitness; the world around us; travel, tourism; environmental issues and the Spanish–speaking world. Essential: A minimum of six GCSEs (grades A*-C) is required, including Maths and English. GCSE Grade A in Spanish.
