Drama and Theatre Studies (A2) at Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School
AS and A2 units and content: This A-level in Drama and Theatre Studies includes looking at texts as well as a written exam. There is also a focus on acting techniques and performance. Unit 1: Exploration of two play texts. Practical work is assessed in lessons and supported by written coursework. Includes a theatre visit and follow-up review. Unit 2: Group performance (internally assessed) of a published play. Focus on rehearsal and performance techniques. Performance of a monologue (externally assessed). Unit 3: Devising project. Practical performance and a devising process assessed and supported by written coursework (internally assessed). Unit 4: Written Exam. Focus on the role of the director and creating a performance concept for a play. Evaluation of a Shakespeare play in performance.
A grade B or above in GCSE Drama and English is required. If you have not taken Drama at GCSE, please speak to the Head of Department
Any careers in theatre, business management, teaching, education, advertising, media etc. Drama is useful for any career that involves working with people. You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which could be related to the performing arts, to prepare for higher education in the arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre industries. You may also like to look at joining a theatre group to increase your drama and theatre experience. The course offers a distinct subject content which provides you with the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers from lots of industries are looking for.
