Media Studies A-Level at Abbeywood Community School
Students on this course will need to have good practical IT skills and an interest in the media.
What will I study?
Do you have an interest in how mass media affects most areas of society and contributes to our understanding of the world? Then this could be the course for you.
The AS qualification is a self contained, integrated course, providing a rigorous introduction to the key aspects of media study. Areas studied include music, television, film, the internet, magazines and media technologies. All students will have an opportunity to undertake practical media work as part of their programme. The A2 course includes further investigates media research and production, as well as examining theoretical perspectives to understanding how the mass media operates.
How will I learn?
You will develop your understanding of media texts through close analysis. The course will involve much discussion and some group work. There will be a significant amount of practical work, which will include the use of IT packages, video production and digital technologies.
At least 5 GCSE grades A*- C including English Language. If taken, GCSE Media grade C or BTEC Media Merit preferred
You will be assessed through examination and practical production coursework.
Media Studies is a recognised qualification providing access to college and university study. It compliments subjects such as English, Film Studies, Law, Psychology and Sociology. It is especially useful for careers in Media and publishing.
