History at Guru Nanak Sikh Academy
The course consists of four units: * A study in Development - Medicine and Public Health Through Time. This is a chronological study of medicine over a period of time. Students will examine development during different period of history. This will include the study of change and continuity and similarities and differences that relate to events in the history of medicine and their wider historical context. * An in depth study - Germany 1919-1945 This will include a detailed examination of the political, economic and social conditions that allowed Nazism to take root and flourish. In addition, students will explore the role of Adolf Hitler and Nazi policies towards education, youth, religion, culture and entertainment. * A modern study - The Israeli Arab Conflict This focuses on the connection between the past and the present by considering the political problems in the contemporary Middle East in the light of past events. This study will be assessed by coursework only. * A historical site - The Grand Union Canal and Great Western Railway in Hays. This will be a local study investigating the history of the Grand Union Canal and the Great Western Railway. Students will also study the impact on the development of Hayes. This study will be assessed by coursework only. Coursework 25% Examination 75% - Paper 1 on Medicine Unit 1, Part 2 on Germany Unit 2.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in History or related subjects such as English, American Studies, Politics , Archaeology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to history by seeking employment in areas of heritage such as working for a museum or within education such as a teacher. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
