Music BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate at Hull College Group
This is a newly designed Level 2 Music qualification which is built up of Core units, Mandatory units and specialist units depending on your chosen pathway.
The Music Performance pathway will explore Music Theory, Performance and Music Ensemble studies
The Music Technology pathway will explore Music Recording and Sequencing.
The course has been designed to provide a comprehensive and challenging programme of study related to music that is particularly suited to post-16 learners who have the relevant interest and aptitude to progress in the sector.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a ‘Purple Worm Records’ project. Purple Worm Records is the College’s own independent record label and works with local artists/performers.

- Managing a Music Product
- Music and Production Analysis
- Music Showcase
- Researching a Music Topic
4 GCSEs at grade D and above including English and Maths. Students must demonstrate skill and commitment through interview and audition.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music
All students will partake in all of the elements of the Study Programme which include:
- Vocational Studies
- English and Maths*
- Additional learning goals
- Individual learner reviews
- Work experience
- Directed Personal Study
Additional vocational work will be set for students to work on in studio’s as Directed Personal study, outside of the above timetabled sessions. Hours per week for this Study programme are between 16hrs and 30hrs.
Each student has an Individual Study programme package dependant on previous qualification achievements.
*Dependant on previous qualifications, Maths and English are mandatory requirements for all students who have not achieved Grade C or above in GCSE. Additional learning goals will be studied dependant on individual students previous English and Maths achievements.
