Course description

Year 1 AS F211 - Unit 1 Cells, Exchange and Transport Module 1: Cell structure, cell membranes, cell division and cell diversity and organisation. Module 2: Exchange surfaces and breathing, transport in animals and plants. F212 - Unit 2 Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health. Module 1: Biological molecules – (nucleic acids, enzymes, Biological molecules). Module 2: Food and Health – (diet and food production, health and disease). Module 3: Biodiversity and Evolution – (classification, evolution, maintaining biodiversity). F213 - Unit 3 Practical Skills in Biology - 1 A practical task set by the board and marked by the school.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs grade A-C, including English and Maths. At least a B grade required at GCSE.

No cost to full-time students.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses that may overlap with Biology or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Biology, which could lead onto higher education in science related subjects or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Biology such as a Doctor, Nurse, Science Technician or Marine Biologist. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
