A Level Spanish at Ashton Sixth Form College

Course description

The Advanced Spanish course builds upon the skills and knowledge you have developed in your GCSEs.

The main difference between GCSE and advanced level work is the range and length of written work. To do well you will have to develop your skills to write accurately and know a lot about the structures of the language. This will also help you to become more confident orally.


Course content

Leisure and Lifestyles

In this unit we will discuss travel and tourism, hobbies, entertainment, sport, customs and traditions, healthy living, health and nutrition, diet and exercise and unhealthy living (drugs, alcohol and smoking).

The Individual and Society

This unit covers topics such as education, vocational training, future careers, gender issues, youth culture (values, peer groups, fashion and trends), relationships and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

Minimum 5 GCSE grades A*-C

Grade C — GCSE English Language

Grade B — GCSE Spanish

Minimum GCSE score of 5.5 (unless native speaker)

Spanish students progress onto a wide variety of degrees and careers. Last year 89% of students moved on to Higher Education.
