IT and Business BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Bradford College

Course description

You will gain a deep understanding of business and organisational structures and how this relates to IT infrastructure. You will learn e-commerce, information systems, Impact of the use of IT on Business Systems. You will gain an in-depth understanding of computer systems, network management, databases and web technologies. These subjects will develop your skills and knowledge needed to gain employment and progress on to university.

Course content

The course is made up of four Mandatory Units and a further eight optional units that will give you an excellent understanding of IT and Business systems. This course is equivalent to three A levels and is completed over two years.
You will study twelve units:

Communication and Employability Skills for IT

Computer Systems

Information Systems.

Impact of the use of IT on Business Systems


Organisational System Security

Cisco IT Essentials

Website Production

Database Design

Spreadsheet Modelling

Installing and Upgrading Software

Graphic Design

You will also study towards the Institute of Financial Services (IFS) examination which is equivalent to an additional A level.

Entry requirements

You will need at least four GCSEs at Grade A*-C including English and Mathematics or an equivalent full Level 2 IT qualification at Merit and GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.


You will be assessed throughout the course by assignments and practical assessments. This will include project work and lab activities.

Future opportunities

You will be working with a range of ICT applications and tools to develop business information systems. You will develop investigative and analytical skills working on live practical projects. Working with others you will also develop communication and team working skills.
