Sociology at Park Hall Academy

Course description

AQA Advanced Subsidiary in Sociology.  Sociology is the focus of the study of people in society.  We look at research which has been carried out by sociologists and others into human behaviour in groups.

We are all members of social groups (ethnicity, gender, social class and age) and in Sociology we look at how belonging to different social groups affects our life chances

 

Course content

In your first year you will study the sociology of families and households.  You will also learn and use different research methods in order to study the sociology of education.

 

In your second year you will research into the sociology of Power and Politics.  You will also learn about the impact of stratification and differentiation upon life chances.

Entry requirements

5 A* to C grades in GCSE examined subjects.

Why are girls achieving better GCSE results than boys?

What changes are families experiencing?

Why do people support Pressure Groups and New Socila Movements?

Is class still important in Britain?

Future opportunities

You will gain many transferable skills that you learn and develop whilst on this course.  The knowledge that you will gain will prepare you for a range of careers and university courses sguch as:
