BTEC Level 2 First Award in Construction & the Built Environment (2020 pathway only) at Thomas Deacon Academy
The course includes the theoretical and practical elements of the construction trades and the supporting knowledge. The theoretical elements of the course will give candidates a wider knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the construction activities that take place within it.
Candidates are expected to study outside of the class room environment.
External visits to construction sites will support learning so candidates need to be prepared actively take part in these.
Meeting coursework deadlines is essential.
1. Construction Technology – External examination
2. Construction & Design – Internally assessed coursework
3. Scientific & Mathematical Applications in Construction – Internally assessed coursework
4. Exploring Plumbing Principles & Techniques or Exploring Electrical Principles & Techniques.
1 C, 3Ds and 1 E
D and E in English/maths minimum
Candidates need to be able to complete physical practical tasks as well as produce high quality written portfolios. Self-motivation is essential for this course as candidates will be expected to study outside of the class room.
Research skills are important as coursework will contain up to date information on the activities that are taking place in the built environment.
Unit 1 is an external examination.
The remaining 3 units are an internally assessed coursework portfolio.
Candidates will have to provide their own safety footwear. All other personal protective equipment, tools and equipment will be provided.
Candidates who successfully complete the level 2 course can then continue to the guided pathway and study the BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Construction. The level 2 course will also give candidates an advantage when applying for apprenticeships in specific trades.
