Mathematics with Mechanics AS and A Level at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form

Course description

This course is particularly suitable for those studying Physics at A Level and for prospective engineers.  Popular combinations are Mathematics and Physics with ne from Chemistry, Biology or Technology – but if you are really good at mathematics you should consider the Further Mathematics course.

In AS, the three modules provide a foundation to Pure Mathematics and build on the algebra work covered at GCSE.  In A2, Pure Mathematics is further developed ant he Mechanics concentrates on developing work covered in Science at GCSE such as Newton’s Laws or distance, Speed and Time.



Entry requirements

Mathematics GCSE grade C or better.

Future opportunities

There is a wide variety of careers and university courses available to students having studied Mathematics with Mechanics. 

Advanced Level Mathematics students are in an extremely good position when applying for any university courses even when the course is not related to Mathematics. University courses related to this Advanced Level include Mathematics, any engineering course such as Mechanical/ Chemical/Electrical Engineering and Medicine.
