Course description

This course is an introduction to the construction industry and is available in three pathways, this course being in brickwork.

Course content

This is an introduction to the construction industry. The core units cover essentials of health and safety, communication and building structures. The specialist units are attached to your chosen career pathway to give you the skills to do the job. Progression is essential to gain semi-skilled and skilled status.

Brickwork - brickwalls, blockwalls and cavity walls

Entry requirements

To have completed secondary education up to and including year 11.

Assessment

6-8 units of knowledge support for each specialist pathway. Multi choice question paper per unit, 1-6 synoptic assessments, (assessed practical tasks), dependent on chosen specialist pathway.

Future opportunities

Employment and one day per week on a part time Level 2 Diploma programme, supported by CITB or Level 2 Diploma full time

    • Our Princes Road campus houses many of our practical vocational areas. Laid out over a two-floor site with car parking and good links to buses, the campus boasts a new Electrical and Engineering block.

      A new welcome area with internet cafe, refectory and conservatory area for students to relax and socialise are also available.

      In addition to Electrical and Engineering, our Princes Road campus also houses our Construction workshops and Hospitality and Catering kitchens, with our Princes Room restaurant open to the public.

      The campus also houses a Learning Centre, Skills Development Centre, Assessment Centre and Tutorial Centre.
